Compare apertures without guessing the puree texture
A smaller hole changes the separation surface. It does not define a finished-product texture or guarantee a rate by itself.
Relative openings within the published family range
Relative hole diameters only. The three examples are not a supplied screen set, perforation drawing or sample result.
| Observation | Record with each basket | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Product texture | Agreed texture or pulp-content method, visible defects | Deformable particles and fibres do not behave like rigid spheres. |
| Seed / stone integrity | Representative product and reject samples | Finer screening does not establish freedom from hard fragments. |
| Screen loading | Basket identity, open area, blocked area, feeding pattern | Aperture alone does not establish throughput. |
| Useful pulp in reject | Sample and agreed residual-pulp method | Dry appearance alone does not quantify product loss. |
Aperture and open area answer different questions
Nominal aperture describes the hole opening. Hole shape, pitch, sheet thickness and blocked area also affect the working surface. Two baskets marked with the same aperture can therefore load differently.
Compare one controlled change
Keep the material batch, preparation, temperature, feeding pattern and rotor setting attached to each screen run. Collect product and reject over the same interval, then compare texture, seed damage and useful pulp left in the reject.
Specify both DJ stages
The first screen handles the prepared inlet; the second receives the accepted first-stage stream. Record each basket separately. The published family range is 0.4–1.5 mm, while the shipped apertures and pattern belong in the quotation.
