Pulping, finishing and destoning compared
These are distinct mechanical tasks. A shared cylindrical appearance does not make their feed limits, product target or reject conditions interchangeable.
Prepared feed
Define fruit, temperature and upstream preparation.

Test texture and defects against the product brief.
Retained solids
Inspect integrity and useful pulp remaining.
| Task | Typical inlet boundary | What the trial must show |
|---|---|---|
| Primary pulping | Prepared fruit or crush within the tested stone, seed and preparation envelope. | Feed condition, screen loading, product texture, reject composition and a balanced mass record; whether a second pass is justified. |
| Finishing / refining | Pulp, puree or juice stream after extraction or first-stage separation. | Final texture, seed or fibre fragments, screen blinding, useful pulp in the reject and stable transfer. |
| Stone-fruit destoning | Stone fruit at an agreed size, maturity, temperature and preparation condition. | Intact stone separation, fragment or kernel exposure, flesh loss, peel carryover and the downstream pulp target. |
Three tasks, three evidence sets
Pulping opens the fruit and produces a first screened stream. Finishing refines an already separated stream. Destoning removes a hard stone before fine refining. A machine may combine duties, but each task still needs its own inlet boundary, reject check and acceptance evidence.
Do not use a DJ capacity or screen value to size a dedicated destoner, and do not treat a destoner as a finishing stage. Match the task first, then the machine arrangement.
