Fruitpulper.com / Decision guide

Select a fruit pulper screen through controlled feed, setting and outlet trials.

Published equipment examples span fine finishing apertures through coarser pulping screens. Those numbers are useful for planning trials, but the correct setting depends on fruit structure, preparation, temperature and the product specification.

01

Begin with the defect to remove

Name the unwanted solids: peel, seed, coarse fibre, stone fragments or another fraction. Then define what must remain, including desired fibre and texture. Without both sides, finer is not a meaningful goal.

02

Aperture and open area are different

Two screens with similar holes can have different perforation patterns, thickness and total open area. Ask for the complete screen specification and inspect loading across the chamber.

03

Build a controlled trial matrix

Use one representative feed lot, hold upstream preparation stable and change one variable at a time. Record throughput, settings, product texture, reject composition and cleaning behaviour.

Questions before a trial

Can 0.5 mm be used for every puree?

No. Published apertures are application examples, not universal recommendations. Validate against the actual fruit and target product.

When should two screens be tested in series?

When coarse solids overload a fine screen or when bulk separation and final texture need different duties.

What is screen blinding?

Material blocks the effective open area, reducing flow and changing separation. Record where and when it occurs during the trial.
